The Friends of the Port River are focused on advocacy, community engagement and environmental monitoring in support of the Port River and Barker Inlet Estuary.
The Friends of the Port River are an offshoot of the Estuary Care Foundation (2016 -2023) and committed to the implementation of ECF’s Future Vision.

That Future Vision is for:
A planned future that prioritises a healthy estuary and a safe community, and that generates a strong sense of social pride.
The Friends of the Port River are carrying forward ECF’s knowledge, skills and experience in responding to climate change, coastal restoration, environmental monitoring, education and community engagement.
The Friends of the Port River welcome:
Ongoing Initiatives
The initiatives of the City of PAE in implementing concepts championed by ECF such as Living Shorelines
Supporting Transitions
The transition of ECF conservation and restoration projects to staffed NGOs, like OzFish’s leadership of the Port River Shellfish Restoration project
Federal Funding
The support of Federal Government funding to achieve these developments.
In the lead up to the 2026 State election, the Friends of the Port River are seeking bipartisan support for the SA Government to assume active leadership in implementing ECF’s Future Vision.
