Now low tides during daytime have returned, Friends of Port River (FPR) have gone back to Torrens Island to check on our 3 seagrass monitoring sites at Lipsons.
FPR is continuing seagrass monitoring that began with Estuary Care Foundation in 2017. Following heatwaves in Feb 2023 and March 2024, FPR went to Lipsons on March 24th, 2024 to check how seagrass was faring.
This blog compares photos from March 24th, 2024 with our recent visit on 15th November, 2024.
In short, seagrass recovery has occurred. At Lipsons South, while we couldn’t see seagrass at our monitoring post there were patches of recovery as we went north. We were really heartened at the extent of recovery we saw at Lipsons Central and really pleased with the extent and density of cover at Lipsons North.
Here’s hoping that any heat waves don’t coincide with very low tides this summer.
